So on the 23rd of every month, I think about my relationship with roam and what I should have done from February till now. Days Calculator, I use a lot to quantify time these days. It's been 8months and one day or 243days including today. I haven't used roam on all these days. Looking at the graph makes me feel unproductive. The problem lies with how thinking about projects that happen within roam and what becomes of them. Large scale drawing projects are for now not possible to manage on a single personal graph, or currently, the system in place is geared towards large writing projects and not anything to do with the requirements of drawing projects. The idea of the visual in the current space of discussions is limited to sketching out ideas. The sketch is considered a component of note-taking and if you have a lot of sketches it is a visual zettelkasten. This elaboration is limiting in its premise. So when doctors draw it is different from the drawing made by designers or artists. There is a learning of how an organ works when a medical student diagrams how the kidneys work. This is different from when a designer wants to design an object or a space. A construction drawing is not the same as a sketch drawn from memory or inspiration. A collection of visual references is either sourced or iteratively developed are incorporated into the final set of drawings. Most of the time images are dumped into folders that are then reworked in almost the same way text blocks are moved around in image editing or drawing tools. Design research sits at a very tricky middle ground where both drawings and text need to come together in some way. Today back in roam after about a month and a few previous months of inconsistent use, the objective now, here, is to convert a text workflow to accommodate a visual work system.
